Geothermal energy accesses the heat that is below the Earth’s crust.  Heat from inside the earth generates steam, which is used to create electricity.  The scale of geothermal can range from large complex power stations that tap heat deep within the earth to relatively simple pumping systems that tap into heat close to the Earth’s surface.
