Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are human-made chemicals that belong to a class of “forever chemicals.” This class of chemicals does not break down and can contaminate drinking water, which can cause decreased fertility, developmental delays in children, increased cancer risk, and more while costing millions to fix.
S.5648-C/A.3556-C, currently being considered in the NYS legislature, prohibits the sale of a wide variety of consumer products that contain intentionally added per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), as well as unintentionally added PFAS present at or above certain levels. This bill covers product categories such as fabric treatments, cookware, dental floss, ski waxes, architectural paints, air-fresheners, automotive waxes and cleaners, and general household cleaning products.

Dear Speaker Heastie and Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins,
I’m asking you to pass S.5648-C/A.3556-C, a bill to ban per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in products such as fabric treatments, cookware, dental floss, ski waxes, architectural paints, air-fresheners, automotive waxes and cleaners, and general household cleaning products.
PFAS chemicals are human-made chemicals that belong to a class of “forever chemicals.” These chemicals do not break down, contaminate drinking water and water sources, and are a severe threat to human health.
But we can address this burgeoning problem by preventing PFAS use in the first place. Major product producers can eliminate PFAS from their products, and S.5648-C/A.3556-C will do just that.
Please stand up for New Yorkers’ health and bring the PFAS ban to the floor for a vote as soon as possible.
