- Dr. Élyse Caron-Beaudoin, Associate Professor, Department of Health and Society, University of Toronto Scarborough
- Ranjana Bhandari, Executive Director, Liveable Arlington
- Dr. Kathy Nolan, Senior Research Director, Catskill Mountainkeeper
During this presentation, Dr. Élyse Caron-Beaudoin will describe community-engaged research investigating human exposure and health outcomes linked to unconventional oil and gas development in Northeastern British Columbia. She will highlight key pathways of human exposure to contaminants associated with this industry; explain how community-based and Indigenous partnerships can inform environmental health research; and present some findings linking chemical exposure to health outcomes in impacted communities.
Ranjana Bhandari will describe Liveable Arlington's advocacy work, which is grounded in principles of intergenerational justice, climate justice, and environmental justice. The group has built diverse community coalitions to secure important victories, including halting drilling approvals near local daycares. She will explain how their organizing work uses public health research to advocate for municipal and federal protections from fracking in their frontline Barnett Shale community.
Dr. Kathy Nolan will ground the conversation with the Compendium Updates's most recent findings as well as Catskill Mountainkeeper's continued work to advance a just energy transition and keep fossil fuels out of New York State.
