Parksville, NY Sunday, March 23rd from 1:30 - 3:30pm, the public is invited to a Maple Weekend Tour at the Justus Asthalter Sap House in Parksville, NY followed by a short hike or snowshoe, depending on conditions, along the Parksville O & W Rail Trail.
Meet at the Justus Asthalter Maple Sugar Farm at 1:30pm, located at 865 Aden Road, Parksville, NY, to witness tree tapping and sap boiling at a 4th generation Sullivan County sugaring operation.
Then explore a 1.3-mile segment of the Parksville Rail Trail along the picturesque Little Beaverkill. The Parksville Rail Trail is just off Route 17, at exit 98. Parking in the new municipal lot next to the historic Parksville Church and across from the Mobil Station, at the corner of Parksville Road and Short Avenue.
At approximately 2:30pm, the hike begins one block away in front of the old Mr. Willy's on Main Street, where the trailhead is located. There will be two groups, the jack rabbits and the tortoises, so participants can pick the pace that fits them.
Afterwards, everyone is invited to warm up at nearby Rolling River Café in a relaxing, cozy atmosphere, just a block from the trailhead. Hot and cold beverages and tapas are available. You may want to stay for supper – chef Rob Rayevsky’s entrees are superb!
