Outrageous! The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has given the Constitution Pipeline companies permission to cut down a 100-foot wide swath of trees along the pipeline route in Pennsylvania BEFORE New York has granted the project a required water quality certificate under the Clean Water Act. Loggers have already begun cutting down trees in PA but if New York denies the 401 water quality certificate the pipeline cannot be built and the destruction of trees will stop. Please send your message now.

There is no possible way to tear through New York's sensitive hills, forests, wetlands, and streams where this pipeline is proposed without threatening water quality and degrading aquatic habitat. To do its job, the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) must deny the 401 Water Quality Certificate.

It is time for Governor Cuomo to push back on FERC’s rubber-stamped permits and premature tree cutting approval by DENYING the water quality certifications now. Please act now to stop the Constitution Pipeline.

The Constitution Pipeline would carry fracked gas from Pennsylvania to Canada by carving a path of destruction through the heart of New York State. It will cross through Broome, Chenango, Delaware, and Schoharie counties; destroy more than 1,000 acres of forests and fertile farms; clear cut 700,000 trees; endanger 277 waterways; and directly threaten the health and safety of our communities and families.

And for what? So that Big Oil & Gas can sell its dirty fuel for more money in foreign markets!

Over the past months Mountainkeeper supporters like you have sent thousands of messages and made calls to the Governor urging him to use his powers under the Clean Water Act to stop the Constitution Pipeline.

Your activism, along with other concerned citizens, has kept the NYS DEC from granting the 401 Water Quality Certificate and put the Constitution Pipeline on hold for more than a half a year! Given the huge power of Big Oil and Gas and their Washington DC allies, this is a tremendous victory.

But now Governor Cuomo must do the right thing and put an end to the Constitution Pipeline – once and for all -- by DENYING the 401 Water Quality Certificate. Please send your email message to the Governor and the NYS DEC right now.
