The new pro-Big Oil and Gas administration in Washington, DC is sure to present huge challenges to our efforts to fight the flood of dangerous fossil fuels traveling across our State and to make New York a leader in committing to a renewable energy future. But taking on the really tough battles against all odds has been Mountainkeeper’s strength and passion from day one.
Mountainkeeper is ready to bring our expert advocacy, political savvy, and the people power of thousands of grassroots activists to the fight to stem the flood of oil and gas invading our region via a sprawling network of new and expanded pipelines, oil trains, and barges.
And we have proof that--together--we can win. Over the past year, we played a key role in convincing New York State to deny a crucial water permit to the Constitution Pipeline and to reject the Port Ambrose Liquified Natural Gas project. Mountainkeeper’s ability to galvanize a strong public outcry and turn up the political heat made these victories possible.
As always, the heart of our mission lies here in the Catskills and, in the coming year we’ll be intensifying our on-the-ground work to protect our spectacular wild places—including once again leading intensive online advocacy at budget time to make sure our iconic Catskill Park gets the funding it deserves.
We’ve got our work cut out for us.
