We’ve got a lot of momentum to build on, beginning with New York State’s historic fracking ban. Mountainkeeper played a leadership role in making it happen -- with our expert advocacy, political savvy, fierce determination and thousands of grassroots activists like you that kept the pressure on. 

Now we’re employing that same effective array of tactics to prevent Big Oil and Gas from circumventing the fracking ban and stem the flood of oil and gas invading our region via a sprawling network of new and expanded pipelines, oil trains, and barges. 

And we have proof that -- with your support -- we can keep winning. Just last month we played a key role in convincing Governor Cuomo to veto the Port Ambrose Liquified Natural Gas project, a massive deepwater port proposed off the shore of Long Island that would have threatened coastal communities and marine ecosystems. Once again, Mountainkeeper’s ability to galvanize a public outcry and turn up the political heat was crucial.

As always, the heart of our mission lies here in the Catskills and, in the coming year, we’ll be intensifying our on-the-ground work to protect our spectacular wild places -- including leading a contingent of our grassroots activists to Albany at budget time to be sure our iconic Catskill Park gets the funding it deserves.
