Standing with our allies at Standing Rock

Catskill Mountainkeeper condemns state-sponsored violence in the name of a fossil fuel company’s profits and stands in solidarity with the all of the tribal nations and water protectors against the Dakota Access pipeline. We join the outcry urging President Obama to call off the National Guard, send in the Department of Justice, and halt pipeline construction immediately.

Yesterday (October 27, 2016) in North Dakota more than 100 heavily armed, equipped, and militarized police moved in on peaceful Standing Rock water protectors and their allies for the benefit of the Dakota Access Pipeline Company.

These police have been using extreme measures against peaceful, unarmed protectors including tear gas, concussion grenades, a sound cannon, armored military vehicles, and shooting beanbags. There have been more than 100 arrests.

The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and allies from hundreds of other tribal nations and non-native communities have been peacefully encamped along the Cannonball River for months protecting their water -- and that of millions of other people -- and their sacred sites from destruction by Dakota Access as it builds this not yet fully permitted pipeline.

Catskill Mountainkeeper condemns this state-sponsored violence in the name of a fossil fuel company’s profits and stands in solidarity with the all of the tribal nations and water protectors against this unlawful and immoral destruction. We send out support and safe thoughts to all of our family, friends, and allies in North Dakota. We join the outcry urging President Obama to call off the National Guard, send in the Department of Justice, and halt pipeline construction immediately.

In addition to failing to acquire all the necessary permits to build the Dakota Access Pipeline, the company began construction before the Federal government properly consulted with the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and any other affected tribes. Full tribal consultation must begin before Dakota Access spends one more day building this pipeline.

We encourage everyone to Stand With Standing Rock by calling President Obama now at 202-456-1111 or 202-456-1414 and asking him to halt pipeline construction and in any and all of the following ways:
