Campgrounds ready for the season

Updated: 05/15/2008 10:21 AM
NEW YORK STATE -- Campers will soon be filing into campsites as the State Department of Environmental Conservation prepares to open their campgrounds on Friday. Each year millions visit campgrounds in the Adirondacks and Catskills.

Nearly 39,000 reservations have been booked already for the 2008 season which is an increase of 15 percent from last year.

The DEC operates 52 campgrounds and seven day-use areas in the Adirondack and Catskill Forest Preserves.

Most sites range from $16 to $22 per night.
