No Fracked Gas Plant in Sheridan Hollow

While New York has banned fracking, we are still far too reliant on dirty and dangerous fracked natural gas to meet our state’s energy needs. To make matters worse, the state is proposing to build more new gas power plants--a move that takes us farther away from the essential goal of securing 100% of the state’s energy from renewable sources like solar and wind, which will help protect our environment, and safeguard public health.

Right here in Albany, Governor Cuomo is proposing a new microgrid in the Sheridan Hollow neighborhood that would run on fracked gas and serve the Empire State Plaza and other government buildings. This is exactly the wrong way to go. Sign this petition and tell Governor Cuomo: NO to a fracked gas plant in Sheridan Hollow, and YES to renewables.

Mountainkeeper is grateful to our friends at the Sheridan Hollow Alliance for Renewable Energy for all the hard work they’re doing on the front lines of this fight, and we’re proud of be part of the coalition effort opposing this terrible project.

Petition Text

To: Governor Andrew Cuomo and Gil Quiniones, CEO, NY Power Authority:
From: [Your Name]

We call on Governor Cuomo and Gil Quiniones to stop the Sheridan Hollow fracked gas power plant and use the funds dedicated to this project to make our state capital a national model for renewable energy. Immediate steps also must be taken to reduce toxic pollution from the existing steam plant and backup generators on Sheridan Avenue.
