The Cutting Garden is pleased to announce that NOFA-NY (The Northeast Organic Farming Association) is sponsoring a second four session course centered on a step by step approach to creating and maintaining a permanent, low maintenance system of production for food, flowers and trees based on the natural system of the forest. This will be a hands-on course with emphasis on individual attention.
The course will take place on Sundays between 1 pm and 3:30 pm. It will be taught by Certified Permaculture Educator Maria Grimaldi assisted by Anne Hart. The fee for the course is $125.00 or $100.00 for NOFA NY Members. The dates are as follows:
April 29 will center on DESIGN
Design the garden based on contour, climate and orientation to the sun. Soil and water, access and other elements of design will be discussed for your site. Bring a rough sketch, photos and or survey of your property.
MAY 27 Propagation
Learn about the physiology of plants and how they function as well as the morphology of the reproductive structures of plants. Start seeds in our greenhouse. Materials provided. Bring your own seeds to start. Seedlings will be grown in the greenhouse and will be taken home at the end of the course.
JUNE 10 Soil
Build soil and maintain fertility based on nature. Learn about soil, compost, cover-crops, composting techniques and application. Work hands on in the garden. Wear work clothes. Tools provided. Bring a soil sample from your garden to be evaluated and tested.
JULY 8 Maintain and Enjoy!
Plant and maintain annuals and perennials. Learn to address problems of “weeds”, insects, and disease with natural controls. Transplant seedlings, direct seed, and propagate by division of perennials. Hands-on. Wear work clothes.
