Belleayre

A private Belleayre Resort has been proposed for land adjacent to the public Belleayre Mountain Ski Center, within the Catskill Park and forest preserve.  This large scale private development is now going through the state-mandated environmental quality review process, SEQR.

This fight has been going on for almost ten years.  Through the pressure of environmental groups 86% of the land originally proposed for development will be sold to the state for inclusion as “forever wild” lands in the Catskill Forest Preserve.  There is still more to be done – Catskill Mountainkeeper is fighting hard to make sure that the ridge tops are protected and that any building that is done is integrated with the environment.
