Millenium Pipeline
new member here, hello! I live just yards away from the Millenium Pipeline and must say it breaks my heart to hear the roaring of the backhoes digging up the trench, knocking down the trees and preparing the way for the Marcellus Shale natural gas "reserves" to flow. What irritates me about the whole business is how little there is ever (except in certain small circles) any discussion of conservation of resources. Tis said we need "less dependency on foreign oil" so we now turn to that fabulous geological wealth just beneath our feet but at the expense of how many birds nests, habitat destruction, poisonous sludge ponds...I already feel quite ill. Not to mention the deafening noise of this equipment -- who are these people?? I've heard all the workmen hail from Minnesota or thereabouts...why? why if this thing must be done (and I don't remember voting for it) are there no local hires? They start at 7 am and go still after 8pm even on Sundays.

There is a some information on the pipeline. By and large most of the workers on the pipeline as well as the well diggers are industry people who travel to work sites. They are not local laborers. There are some jobs outsourced locally but the majority are not.
