Incredible Victory! DEC Denies CPV Air Quality Permit - Effectively Shutting Down Fossil Fuel Plant

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is denying the renewal of the Air State Facility Permit for the Competitive Power Ventures Power Plant in the Town of Wawayanda, in Orange County, New York.  Denial of the permit effectively shuts down this new natural gas and diesel powered plant that has been fiercely opposed by grassroots, regional and statewide groups for its devastating environmental impacts.

Ramsay Adams, Executive Director of Catskill Mountainkeeper said:  "I applaud Governor Cuomo and DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos for standing up for the health of all New Yorkers and for protecting the environment of New York State.  This is the kind of leadership we need as we march toward our renewable energy future."

This amazing victory is a result of the tireless grassroots work of Protect Orange County and SCRAM (as well as other community organizations).  We also want to thank Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther and local elected officials who wrote letters and lobbied on behalf of rejecting the permit.

Please call the DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos and thank him and Governor Cuomo for standing up for all New Yorkers and rejecting the CPV Air Permit at (518) 402-8545.
