Fire Tower Hike Series

Join the Catskill Mountainkeeper Staff for a series of hikes up to the 5 remaining Catskill Fire Towers. These are beautiful, rugged hikes with breathtaking views!

 Saturday July 15th Fire Tower Hike #1: Mt. Tremper

Join us for a free hike led by Catskill Mountainkeeper Forest and Lands Coordinator Bagley Wright and Agricultural Coordinator Pamela Greenlaw.  Meet at the Trailhead on Rt 40, between the towns of Phoenicia and Mount Tremper. The hike is roughly 2.7 miles up to the Fire Tower, 5.4 miles in total. This hike is rated moderate to difficult for the average active person. Please bring hiking boots, water, and a lunch or snack. Hikers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. This event will only be cancelled due to severe weather. Everyone will receive a ticket for a free beer at the Catskill Brewery, so join us afterwards for a beer in in Livingston Manor!

Directions: Meet at the Phoenicia trailhead to Mount Tremper on rt 40, between the towns of Phoenicia and Mount Tremper.

 

Saturday August 12th Fire Tower Hike Series #2: Hunter Mountain

Join us for a free hike led by Catskill Mountainkeeper Forest and Lands Coordinator Bagley Wright and Agricultural Coordinator Pamela Greenlaw. Meet at the Spruceton Trailhead in Spruceton, near West Kill.  The hike is seven miles round trip and is moderately to difficult for the average active person. Please bring hiking boots, water, and a lunch or snack. Hikers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. This event will only be cancelled due to severe weather.

Directions: Meet at the Spruceton Trailhead, at the end of Spruceton road, in the Hamlet of Spruceton near West Kill. We will be taking trail marked with blue disks up to the Fire Tower

 

Saturday September 16 Fire Tower Hike Series #3: Overlook Mountain

Join us for a free hike led by Catskill Mountainkeeper Forest and Lands Coordinator Bagley Wright and Agricultural Coordinator Pamela Greenlaw.  Meet at the Overlook Spur Trailhead for a six miles round trip hike that is moderately difficult for the average active person. Please bring hiking boots, water, and a lunch or snack. Hikers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. This event will only be cancelled due to severe weather.

Saturday October 7th Fire Tower Hike Series #4: Balsam Lake Mountain

Join us for a free hike led by Catskill Mountainkeeper Forest and Lands Coordinator Bagley Wright and Agricultural Coordinator Pamela Greenlaw.  Meet at the Dry Brook Ridge Trailhead for 4.5 mile round trip hike up to the Fire Tower. This is a moderately difficulty hike for the average active person. Please bring hiking boots, water, and a lunch or snack. Hikers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. This event will only be cancelled due to lightning storms.

Everyone will receive a ticket for a free beer at the Catskill Brewery, so join us afterwards for a beer in in Livingston Manor!

Saturday October 28th Fire Tower Hike Series #5: Red Hill

Join us for a free hike on October 28th, led by Catskill Mountainkeeper Forest and Lands Coordinator Bagley Wright and Agricultural Coordinator Pamela Greenlaw.  Meet at the Trailhead on Dinch Road, near Claryville. The hike is 1.4 miles up to the Fire Tower, 2.8 miles in total, difficulty is easy for the average active person. Please bring hiking boots, water, and a lunch or snack. Hikers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. This event will only be cancelled due to severe weather.

Everyone will receive a ticket for a free beer at the Catskill Brewery, so join us afterwards for a beer in in Livingston Manor!

Directions: Follow the yellow-marked Red Hill Tower Trail from Coons Road (formerly Dinch Road) just outside of Claryville-a moderate, three-mile, round-trip hike.
