NYRI Less Likely Under Obama Administration
Opponents of the NYRI power line will be encouraged to hear that the federal energy department under President Obama, appears less likely to ram the project through, over objections from state regulators.
That’s according to Congressman Maurice Hinchey, who was harshly critical of the Bush administration’s efforts to short-circuit local objections to NYRI.
The proposed NYRI route from Marcy to Orange County through parts of Chenango and Broome counties lie within a federal energy corridor, which lets Washington have the final say.
Hinchey says the Obama administration is less likely to wield that authority.
