Catskill Mountainkeeper and Frack Free Catskills will be hosting a screening of GASLAND 2, Josh Fox’s second film about Fracking.
WHEN: Friday, October 18th 7-9:30 pm
WHERE: Onteora High School Auditorium, Boiceville, NY
The first GASLAND helped galvanize the country to oppose fracking- hydrofracking for natural gas. Now GASLAND 2 goes further. From the producers: “The film argues that the gas industry’s portrayal of natural gas as a clean and safe alternative to oil is a myth and that fracked wells inevitably leak over time, contaminating water and air, hurting families, and endangering the earth’s climate with the potent greenhouse gas, methane. In addition the film looks at how the powerful oil and gas industries are in Fox’s words “contaminating our democracy”.
Q &A and discussion will follow and will include what our communities can do to make our voices heard.
With this screening and discussion our community will be joining the GLOBAL FRACKDOWN - a world wide speak out and action against the destructive practice of hydrofracking for natural gas and the infrastructures of pipelines, compressor stations, storage and export terminals which support it. We stand united as a global movement in calling on governmental officials at all levels to pursue a renewable energy future and not allow fracking or any of the associated infrastructure in our communities or any communities. We are communities fighting fracking, frac sand mining, pipelines, compressor stations, LNG terminals, exports of natural gas, coal seam gas, coal bed methane and more. Fracking is not part of our vision for a clean energy future and should be banned.
Doors open at 6:30 pm
