Catskill Park master plan revised

Catskill Park master plan revised

ALBANY – The Catskill Park State Land Master Plan, first developed in 1985, has been revised and the state wants public comment on it.

The plan classifies Forest Preserve lands in the park based on their physical character and capacity to accommodate human use based on four land classifications – wilderness, wild forest, intensive use and administration.

Now, the state has revised the land master plan to include creation of a new land classification, Primitive Bicycle Corridor, encompassing 156 acres; increase the size of the Colgate Wild Forest from 600 acres to 1,495 acres; and include invasive species management.

The State Department of Environmental Conservation is accepting comments on the revised draft plan until 4 p.m. on May 19.
