Tell Governor Andrew Cuomo to Ban Fracking!

Governor Cuomo is running for reelection this year, and will be making more public appearances than usual.  Catskill Mountainkeeper and New Yorkers Against Fracking will be there, and we need you to join us.

This Monday
, Governor Cuomo is hosting a major fundraiser at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City. Help us show Governor Cuomo and his supporters the power of the movement for a frack-free future for New York! Join us outside the event as we call on Cuomo to ban fracking...

As New York State citizens are deciding how to cast their vote, we want the governor to know that more than half of New Yorkers want him to ban fracking now!

NYS Assembly Passes 3 Year Moratorium Bill

Earlier this month, fractivists across New York responded to our call for action, and wrote to New York Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver to urge him to advance legislation calling for a moratorium on fracking. Our elected leaders heard the message loud and clear, and last Monday, June, 16th, the Assembly passed a three-year moratorium on new oil and natural gas drilling permits, by an overwhelming majority.

“We have heard from thousands of residents across the state about many issues associated with hydrofracking, and prudent leadership demands that we take our time to address all these concerns,” Sheldon Silver told EcoWatch. “We do not need to rush into this. The natural gas deposits within the Marcellus Shale are not going to go anywhere.”

While the bill didn’t make it to the Governor’s desk during this legislative session, the 89 – 34 vote in favor of a moratorium reflects the growing sentiment in New York that we need more time to study the health and environmental impacts of fracking.
